Tromp, EMOVES and The Ruggeds team up!
TROMP, Emoves and the Ruggeds collaborate to challenge the cross-over between classical music and urban street culture in the Emoves festival June 29 & July 1 and in the TROMP Opening Night November 9.
Marching & Breakin’
November 9, 2018: one night that challenges the cross-over between classical music and urban street culture. In the Opening Night of the international TROMP percussion competition and festival in Eindhoven, Dutch percussion virtuoso Dominique Vleeshouwers and leading Austrian percussion soloist Martin Grubinger team up with Eindhoven’s renowned breakdance crew The Ruggeds and the winner of the European Championship for wind orchestras St. Michaël van Thorn. Together they create a performance where breakdance turns into ballet, a traditional Dutch wind band is transformed into a hip-hop orchestra and intimate classical percussion gradually evolves into energetic beats that fill the main hall of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven.
TROMP at EMOVES
In the EMOVES opening event June 29, The Ruggeds performed the choreography they created on Steve Reich’s minimal composition Nagoya Marimbas for the first time live on stage with TROMP 2014 and 2016 competition winners Dominique Vleeshouwers and Emil Kuyumcuyan. Sunday July 1, these two percussionists came face to face in the international World BBoy Classic Championships battle as they performed with the break-dancers and challenge each other to play the best beats.
